Most people spend a great deal of time physically and mentally preoccupied with food: we organize and prepare meals, we daydream about what’s for lunch or dinner… And we eat, sometimes a lot… Beyond simply an enjoyable, necessary human pastime, though, eating has important implications for how we think of ourselves, and how we relate to the larger cultures of which we are part in Europe. Which foods people prefer is connected obviously not only with what grows well in a particular place, but also with culture, tradition or rituals, even scarcity and rarity of some foods. The important question is how we can discover ourselves by the food we are eating? How can we discover at the same time the benefits of the healthy lifestyle and the connection between the modern and the traditional food from some European countries? What specific cultural assumptions are reflected in the ways that people eat in Europe? How do eating practices reflect our cultural differences? How do our own eating patterns reflect the various cultures of which we are part of? These are the main questions which led us, the Youth Forum of Odorhei to apply for the 4th of February dead-line with an Erasmus+ project to introduce youth into the culture of food and traditional meals from Europe, both for intercultural dialogue and multicultural learning purposes, communication and motivation for a healthy lifestyle among the local communities from where we came from. Each activity will be based on non-formal education methods. Furthermore the aim of the youth exchange will be to facilitate the personal development of the participants. Beside the regular activities of the youth exchange the participants will also have chances to learn about one anothers culture, and to develop themselves in the areas of the eight key competencies of lifelong learning process. During this partnership we are counting strongly on the power of intercultural dialogue and the multicultural learning process, the good communication between various youth groups and – last but not least – on the strong motivation of us for working in the benefits of our local European communities from where we came. If our project proposal will be a winner – and why not believe that this idea is a good one, which will be much appreciated by the European decision makers – we will have one week to visit among other interesting places form Harghita County (Romania) the milk factory, farms with herbals and veggies, traditional bakeries and a lot of visits of other unique locations.
