WE DISAGREE An open Letter to Dr. Laura regarding Pit Bulls Dear Dr. Laura, Regarding the comments you made on Dec. 15, 2014 about Pit Bulls and how they should all be put down, I understand why you think that. It has been burned into the public consciousness for years that Pit Bulls are extremely dangerous animals. Until very recently I also bought into that idea. I didnt desire that they be put down but I carried a level of fear for these large dogs because of the negative things Id heard about them. PIT BULLS = DANGER was my understanding. But that changed when I got to know & play with some of them. For several years Ive been making videos of dogs in need of homes and posting them to my website to help them get adopted (FurballTV or @furballTV on Instagram). I focused on filming small dogs because thats what I had at home. A friend suggested I team up with an incredible rescue group in Los Angeles called Karma Rescue (KarmaRescue.org) who specialize in saving large breed dogs including Pit Bulls. Seeing how these Pit Bulls behaved, many of whom were rescued from horrifying situations including fight rings, amazed me. These dogs were so happy and loving and sweet - the opposite of what I expected. They were just like any other great dog who felt safe & loved - they were fun, funny, loving, happy, curious, scratch-loving, devoted & loyal. Every single Pit Bull Ive encountered since I started filming them have been fantasic. I dont pretend to be an expert on Pit Bulls but I believe that like people, dogs are generally born nice. Its how theyre raised and cared for that shapes who they become. My mind has been completely changed and I now believe Pit Bulls are some of the most amazing & special animals on the planet. Look closely into the eyes of a Pit Bull who has landed in a loving home environment and you will see a loyalty supreme. I invite you to come out to film with me for a couple of hours next time youre in Los Angeles. Its genuinely fun to get an up close view of these amazing creatures as we try to capture on video the magic these dogs possess so they might be adopted. The experience may change your mind.
