WE LIBERIANS ARE AN INTERESTING PEOPLE! I have realized that in order to deal with Liberians, you must have certain attributes which encompasses the ability to be tough skinned. You cannot not be anything else if not tough skinned to deal with us. Unfortunately, certain Liberians have a mindset that are antithetical to being normal. It has been revealed repeatedly on these various forums. Sometimes I ask myself if it is me being naive to think I can be sensible to make sense, but then I get a double whammy knocking me back into reality that we Liberians are different from every other people on the planet. some of Our thought processes are wired differently, and then the WAR only heightened and compounded our resolve to be totally disconnected. May I guess I was not affected physically, or witnessed it personally to appreciate why some Liberians think the way they do Yesterday, I did an article on Mr. Togba Ronald Porte to promote a brother and a Liberian who has done tremendously well for his Liberian community in New York, and has given tirelessly, and continues to give of himself to the cause for Liberians. This is someone I have followed over the years, and seen first hand what he is made of, and what he continues to do that is phenomenal. But guess what, from the moment I posted the article, I began to see negative comments, and personal attacks from people who will never match Mr. Portes contributions to the people he has passionately confessed to me that he loves with every fiber of his being. I admire the man for being who he is. I am not half the man he is. All the positive things I wrote about Mr. Porte was ignored and overshadowed by grandiose questions of his motives for doing what he does. Eugene L. Fahngon, Hassan Fadiga, Collins Prince and others immediately questioned my reasons for propping up Mr. Porte. Oh, there must be ulterior motives because I dare to point out that Mr. Porte wants to someday be a role model in leadership in Liberia....mind you, I did not say he wants to be president, I simply said he wants to be a leader to continue doing what he is currently doing in the US for Liberians. He has been ridiculed as being an ELITIST, and DELUSIONAL for wanting to be President. Nothing could be further from the truth. Finally, I will end with this note from Mr. Porte. He read the article and was very pleased with my presentation, but he is not on Facebook: Togba Ronald Porte: I am the CEO of Liberias Hope, an advocacy group that I run in Liberia seeking to uplift the lives of Rape victims and Ex-combatants of the Liberian Civil War. We provide food on holidays for 250 of our members in Liberia. We also organized 475 of our members who voted in the 2011 elections. I have been advocating for Liberians in the United States for more than 20 years. I organized the first buses to bring Liberians to Washington DC in 1995 to lobby the United States Congress to give Liberians TPS status. I also was among the first to be arrested and jailed at the United Nations for civil disobedience to have the corrupt Taylor government removed from office. My aim is to have Liberians and Liberia change for the better. This is my lifes work, and I will return to Liberia to live out the rest of my days advocating for my people. (Togba Ronald Porte)
