WE RIDE GEORGIA and FRIENDS I wanted to take a moment to express - TopicsExpress

WE RIDE GEORGIA and FRIENDS I wanted to take a moment to express the gratitude I feel today having been able to ride this past Saturday with each of you. I consider it an honor… I also wanted to thank the DeKalb County Police officers who led the ride for us free of charge. These men and women took time out of their Saturday to assist and insure the safety of the riders (as we shut I-20 down). I was privileged to ride with a group of men I call Brothers to DC last year. On that ride I recognized the need to have this type of FREE event in Georgia. We Ride America began the planning of WE RIDE AMERICANS only three weeks prior to 9/11. There were five states that took part in this event. We Ride Georgia, We Ride Arkansas, We Ride Pennsylvania, We Ride West Virginia, and We Ride Arizona showed up with one goal in mind, to Honor the countless Victims of 9/11/2001, The First Responders and all Military, past and present. Hundreds of riders from across the nation joined together to pay respect. All felt united as states pulled together for one common goal. Only bikers understand the spiritual essence of riding. Many commented on the chills that ran up their spine as we all cranked up and began to roll out. As we rode around Georgia’s beautiful state capital, flags flew high on the capital grounds and from the backs of bikes. 18 wheelers blocked the path and insured safe travel from the rear. The escort sirens cleared the path as we made the final left turn to reveal the 9/11 Memorial located in front of DeKalb Police and Fire Headquarters. There stood a Metal Wing commanding your attention. Below it was a piece of the steel from the Towers, stuck in the ground as if it had come to rest there. On a large granite marker was a quote …”These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve”. George W. Bush The sound of the bikes diminished and all were quite. I again am proud to have ridden with each of you. I assure you, the American spirit lives on today and that together we stand. Same Patriots, Different Horsepower… Join us next year. We need you…
