WE THE PPL: An oral history project developed by Shauna Redmond, - TopicsExpress

WE THE PPL: An oral history project developed by Shauna Redmond, former Allendale Branch Library Manager and now Virtual Services Librarian for the Pasadena Public Library, has been launched on the Pasadena Digital History Collaboration Web site. Supported by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, “We the PPL: Collecting, Preserving and Sharing Community Stories in Pasadena” was designed as a vehicle for residents to talk about their varied experiences of growing up in Pasadena. Through their stories, we learn much about the history and culture of Pasadena, particularly in terms of how the city has developed and changed over the years. The initial series of oral histories focuses on the African American and Latino communities, and features Archer Durham, Steven Cunningham, Joseph Michael Mims, Sr., Mary Ann Chavez-Montanez, and Maxine Garcia. Congratulations to Shauna for designing and implementing a “people’s history of Pasadena,” and we will provide updates and links to future videos related to this project. Shauna is a stellar example of the 21st century librarian expanding the dimensions of the profession by engaging the community through participatory projects. The oral histories can be viewed at the following link:
