WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER...and a message, too: Tonight at church, well be serving meatloaf! Come join us for a wonderful dinner filled with food, faith, fun, and family...tickets are only $4.00 each, and kids age 5 and under eat free. Dinner is served from 5:30 - 6:30 pm in Wesley Hall, and we hope to see you there! You know, I dont recall who specifically came up with the idea for Wednesday Night Dinners. Im not sure if it was Damon or Sherry or someone else, but what a great idea it has been! Our church has been serving a meal on Wednesday evenings for the past few years, and it has been amazing! We serve between 100 - 200 people each Wednesday night (give or take a few due to weather and the time of year) and it has not only been a great community outreach for our church, it has also been a great way for church families to connect with one another. But John, you say, We hardly ever see you there for dinner on Wednesday nights. Youre right. It has nothing to do with church or dinner at all, and is simply due to my schedule of working nights. I am asleep at that time of night, as I usually wake up around 8-8:30 pm in order to work my night shift at the post office. However, the few times that I have been able to join my church family for a Wednesday night dinner have been wonderful! You see, friends, sometimes in our lives there are things that are out of our control: our work hours, our jobs, our schedules and responsibilities. We do the best we can in trying to juggle all of them but we can not. As much as we try to be superdad or supermom, we fall short. For me, I know Ive missed out on a few things over the years because I either had to sleep before work or had another commitment. It happens. The best thing that we can do is pray for the strength to make it through each day. Eventually, our schedules and our lives will get easier (and no, I dont know when that day will be). So, what do we do in the meantime? Meet at church on Wednesday nights for a home-cooked meal at a great price, surrounded by our brothers and sisters in Christ. And, if youre like me, working a crazy schedule. you keep trying and trying to find a job with different hours...daytime hours...which will allow you to participate more at home and at church. Eventually, that new job will come...it may take some time and prayers, but it will come...and then, just think of all the Wednesday night dinners and activities that you wont be missing out on anymore! Amen. ~John Lloyd~
