WEDNESDAY // The objects that individuals and families choose to bring with them when they move serve as bridges between their former and new homes, often carrying powerful memories. Through historic artifacts and first-hand accounts from immigrants today, The Objects We Keep will explore the stories of objects with special importance to people who have come to Indiana from the 1800s to the present. Presented by the Indiana State Museum and Historic sites in honor of Rabbi Sandy Sasso, this program is in partnership with the Immigrant Welcome Center and complements the One Million Journeys, One Destination: A Community Exhibition at Central Library showcasing the commonalities and differences of families who have come to live in Indianapolis. During the program, museum curator of social history Mary Jane Teeters-Eichacker will explore the experiences of 19th and early 20th century immigrants through objects from the museum’s collection. Recent immigrants to Indiana from Mexico, India, Ukraine, Iraq, Germany, and Venezuela will share their stories along with objects of special importance. This program is free. Space is limited. Registration is recommended. 317.232.1637.
