WELCOME ABOARD DOUGLAS!! “As soon as I saw this shirt I realised how much I am going to have to do here,” said Barça’s newest signing, Douglas Pereira, who will wear the number 16, which used to belong to Barça’s current fourth captain, Sergio Busquets. The Brazilian full back gave his first press conference on Friday as he was being presented to the media. “I am very happy to be here in Barcelona to represent Barça,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to training with my new team-mates … Since I’ve been here it’s all been on a different level: The city, the club, the stadium…” More from Barça’s seventh signing this summer, right after the jump. The 24-year-old continued to thank the club for bringing him. “Thank you to the club for its confidence in me. Now it’s up to me to do the job. I’ll work with the coach to find my place in the team and then I’ll do whatever he needs of me.” Douglas also added that there’s no need for concern over his fitness. “I’m fine, I’ve been training at full strength for the last few weeks… I’ll start training and helping my colleagues from tomorrow morning. I’ll show them what I can offer as a player.” There has been a lot of doubt over Douglas’ abilities and whether he can make it in Barça’s elite squad. The Brazilian responded to the doubters by saying, “I feel ready. I’ve come here to play football and that’s what I’ll do.” Despite this move being a dream transfer for him, he explained, “I now have to work to make this dream a reality”. Douglas will be facing a club legend and a la Masia graduate for the right-back spot, but Douglas believes that the competition between himself, Dani Alves and Martín Montoya will only bring the best out of him. “I’ll speak to Alves to learn everything about this club,” he said. “If I can win the titles Alves has won with Barça, I’ll be a happy man … playing for a team like this will make me better as a player, because this is the best club in the world.” Source: FC Barcelona / Image: Miguel Ruiz, FC Barcelona
