WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE BEHIND? “And the dust returns to - TopicsExpress

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE BEHIND? “And the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” (Ecclesiates 12:7) The following was shared with me by my pastor friend, Wade Burton. Will it matter 50 years from now that you lived in this generation? Charles Alllen, in his book, You Are Never Alone, tells about a farmer out in the midwest named John Davis. Mr. Davis was a self-made man who made a lot of money, but he had very few friends (he didnt even get along with his in-laws.) Ha! When his wife died, Davis hired a sculptor to create a beautiful statue of his wife - and the result was a love seat with the two of them seated at each end. Davis was so pleased with his statue that he ordered another, then another. He spent over a quarter of million dollars on these monuments. Several townspeople would go to Mr. Davis and ask him to contribute to special needs within the community. He refused, saying, What has this community ever done for me. I dont owe this town anything. John Davis died at age 92 in a poorhouse. Only one person seemed to be saddened at his passing - he was Horace England, the tombstone salesman. And, Dr. Allen reports all that John Davis left behind are those stone monuments that are slowly sinking into the ground at a cemetery in Lincoln, Kansas. PRAYER: “Father, thank You for giving each of us enough to satisfy our needs. May we give back to our communities more than we receive.”
