WHAT IF GNS WINS Folks, we are grateful to God almighty for seeing us through to another week. To Him be glory for ever and ever-Amen. With party primaries finalized and names of candidates submitted by respective political parties, aliments and re-aliments between and among parties and politicians perfected. We have witnessed politicians cross over to one side of the political isle from the other and vice versa. Campaigns have commenced in earnest in Plateau State as politicians and political parties continue to perfect all means, methods and media to outdo one another in the forthcoming elections. This has seen the political temperature of the State on a steady rise which I see as very normal, usual and typical of any electioneering year. While some politicians; aspirants and their followers have accepted their fate and come to terms with reality and moved on, others are yet to accept the outcome and are still burning in anger. As they count their losses, the elections day draws nearer. Last week was particularly eventful, especially for the contending political parties in our state. We witnessed the formal presentation of Sen. GNS Pwajok, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and leader of the …Greater Together Movement to a mammoth crowd of Plateau people at a campaign flag-off rally of the Party in Mangu Local Government Area. This was seen as hugely successful in the strict sense of the word and beyond the expectation of the organizers. Similarly, the opposing political party in the State the (APC), witnessed the arrival of their Presidential Aspirant and national officials to the State for their presidential/gubernatorial campaign rally during which the APC governorship candidate was presented with the party’s flag confirming him as their flag bearer in the forth-coming elections. This was also declared by party faithfuls as successful. This dingdong affair will continue and intensify to ‘fever’ level as days pass by and may sometimes degenerate into violence if unchecked, God forbid. In the midst of all these, my concern is not in what politicians are doing in their bid to outdo one another, but in what they are offering the people of Plateau for the mandate. A lot of us have placed the issues far below in the pecking order and have instead pursued and popularized ethnic, tribal, religious and sectional interests. This is worrisome. This left me wondering and I ask the question, especially to those who vehemently oppose Sen. GNS Pwajok and do not wish to see him win; What if he wins? I suspect some of you might say so be it! No, that is not it. There should be more to it. We must begin to look at what good can be made of a GNS/Yilji administration. We must understand that this mandate is public trust to be appropriated for public good. It is my advice that while these gentlemen comb the nukes and crannies of our state conversing for votes it should afford us the opportunity to pin down ‘deals’ that will benefit our communities and our people rather than continue with stiff opposition, who knows! The only way this can be achieved is when we set aside the thinks that divide us and choose to work together for the collective good of our people irrespective of the imaginary lines of division. Assuming this to be some kind of equation; Gns+yilji =p V If, gns= governor Yilji=deputy governor P = Plateau state V = our Villages If we are to find the result of combining these variables for the period of 4 years, what do you think the result will be, (+) or (-)? In conclusion, however disappointed we can be with the turn of some event, I think it may not be out of place to allow it play out and see what good can be made out of it. So I ask the question, can we just give this combination a chance and see what result it can produce? Have a nice week. KUDU
