WHAT WE DO, MUST ALWAYS FLOW FROM WHO WE ARE. Why is it that - TopicsExpress

WHAT WE DO, MUST ALWAYS FLOW FROM WHO WE ARE. Why is it that some of us find it so hard to find any work, never mind our dream job? Well, Ive searched for the answer to that question for over 40 years, working with literally thousands of job-hunters. And you know what Ive found is the answer, about 90% of the time? Well, it has two parts. One is the way in which employers keep changing how they search for employees since 2008, to such an extent that our former ways of job-hunting just dont work any more. We need to completely rethink how to find a job, but instead we keep job-hunting the same old way we used to. (For example, our utter dependence on published vacancies (job-boards), and resumes, even as employers turn to them less and less since 2008.) And the other? Our failure to do an inventory on ourselves. Each time I run into a job-hunter who is just completely frustrated with the world out there I always ask them about the world in here—pointing to them. Did you do a thorough re-evaluation of your gifts, did you do a thorough self-inventory of who you are? The answer is almost always, No. What good would that do? Well, a lot. To everyone despairing of their job-hunt, I say, Go to chapter 7 in the latest edition of my book, DO (not just read) the self-inventory in that chapter, and see if it doesnt make a big difference in your job-hunt success thereafter. It certainly has, for thousands—if not millions— before you. The most important question in the job-hunt is not what do you want to do? but rather, Who are you? Because what we do best must always flow from who we are.
