WHO AM I? I’m Marc-Sebastien Camacho, keep it simple with just Marc, and I am from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. I have journeyed to the great land of Ireland to pursue Engineering at TCD. Having been at Halls since September and I have enjoyed the atmosphere, the people, the events and the sports especially. Every week I play football in the Sports Hall and that’s a major event that I look forward to week after week and one of the main reasons that I am running for Sports Officer, is to allow the ‘freshers’ of 2014-2015 to experience the same joy I have through playing football in the Sports Hall. I believe that sports is one of the easiest and best ways to meet people as it encourages a different form of interaction with a human-being than just mere conversation and also it immediately gives a common attribute between yourself and the other players! Now let’s leave the scientific aspect out of it!... WHY ME? I know how to play and have played competitively in many different Sports such as: -Football (Soccer) (competitive) (played competitively since 2008) -Basketball (competitive) -Ultimate Frisbee -Swimming (competitive) -Cricket -Hockey -Pool -Table Tennis -Waterpolo (competitive) -Track and Field (competitive) I also have fair experience in what should be done if someone is injured, ‘winded’ or for someone who has pulled a muscle. Currently I am in the Megaleague, but not with the Halls team, and my team (Pin Pals) has currently only lost one game. It would be my pleasure to take charge of the JCR Halls Soccer team in the Megaleague for 2014-2015. I have had a lot of experience playing with my secondary school, playing with 3 different clubs and I have been playing football since I was about 8 years old. It is my favourite sport hands down and would be great fun to run the JCR Halls soccer team in the Megaleague. WHAT WILL I DO DIFFERENTLY? Johnny Deane, the present Sports Officer, has done a great job in allocating specific time frames for certain sports to be played as well as creating the 5-a-side tournament. Now I will continue this tradition in the following year as well as adding a few more events throughout the year: 1) My main idea that I would like to achieve is having a Sports Day sometime in January 2015 after all of the students have gotten to know the lads in their apartment and their house. The idea will be to have an inter-house Sports Day ie. House 82, House 86 etc. and Cunningham house will be broken up into 2 or 3 separate teams due to their large number. The events for this Sports Day will be simple and fun! But of course, at the same time there will be competitive races such as a 100m sprint and a relay. Some fun races that I had planned were: -Egg and Spoon race - Sack race (you are in a potato bag and you must hop to the finish line) - Beer Chug - Three-Legged Race, Team Sack Race (same as a normal sack race but there are 6 persons where all the sacks are linked together) -Burger eating contest Each House will also be designated a colour to help promote the team spirit where they will come out in their colours to play the respective activities. To allow as many people to take part as possible I will have 2 rounds for each race (but the same person can’t take part in both rounds). 2) Implementing small groups on Facebook for all the different sports so that whenever someone wants to play a sport they can easily get more people to play. It also gives them an idea whether they should leave their room dressed to play the respective sport, to then arrive at the Sports Hall and wait 15 minutes to realise no one is playing that day or there aren’t enough people to form two teams. 3) To have the cabinet in the reception fully equipped at all times with whatever balls, pool sticks or any general equipment needed to play. 4) There will also be an online portal to book the Sports Hall allowing everyone to know whether the Sports Hall is vacant or not, and what sport is being played!
