WHO IS TO BLAME? Several have asked what I think of the “shut-down” and who is to blame for the apparent impasse? My Democratic friends claim that it is wholly the fault of the “greedy, anti-poor, un-American, selfish and unreasonable Republicans.” This week, I was about to be bludgeoned with a half-eaten “Big Mac” when I suggested that the “poor” are those most harmed by Obama’s policies. The portly Democrat nearly choked on a French-fry while trying to convince me that “Obama is for and wants the POOR people.” The potential beating was apparently linked with my observation that this premise may be true since so many more Americans are poor since the President took office. I don’t trust President Obama. I don’t think that he is principled, steady, or wise. He has, in fact, repeatedly shown himself to be weak, petty, vindictive, vacillating, and without a clue about a clear and coherent foreign or domestic policy. Thus, neither he nor the Country is sure of what is best for our national interests or where we are headed. The consequences of such a man leading our Nation in these days of economic uncertainty, staggering debt, unsustainable deficit spending, and, possibly into war, without vocal and principled opposition would be catastrophic. I only hope the opposition leaders do not “cave.” The only constant that Mr. Obama has displayed in five years as President is an uncanny ability and unequivocal determination to blame anyone or anything except himself for whatever goes awry. All it would take to end the current shut-down and the looming crisis on the debt limit [which could prove disastrous to the economy] is incredibly simple. All the President needs to make the law applicable to everyone immediately or allow a year’s delay in the implementation of Obama Care for anyone who desires it. This is nothing more than basic fairness to many working people and small businesses that are skeptical of the law’s impact on their health care and the economy. Obama has already given concessions to his base of supporters in big business, unions, Congress, and other select groups. If this law is so great, then the people will want it and the issue will be settled. But he has made it clear there will be no compromise with the Republicans on the immediate and complete implementation of this coming “train wreck.” The two brain-dead Democratic leaders and shameless demagogues in Congress, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed have echoed and endorsed this position. The President should, at the least, man up and accept responsibility for the shut-down. WEN—10/8/13
