WHY DID HAMID HAVE TO DIE? IHMS has full scale pre-emergency care on Manus according to spokesperson Melissa Lysaght in a conversation on 8.9.14 at 12.10pm. Why did Hamid die from a cut foot? 1) At the very least full scale pre-emergency care should contain iv equipment and crystalloids or plasma expanders. 2) One would assume that full scale pre-emergency care might contain iv antibiotics. 3) One would assume that full scale pre-emergency care might include the facilities for video case conferencing so an appropriate specialist might be able to be consulted, 4) Hamid had made repeated visits to the doctor asking for treatment 5) A transfer request was denied 6) Hamid was flown to Port Moresby who refused to treat, and suggested that Australian care would be more suitable. 7) Hamid had a heart attack in the plane on the way to Australia, where his brain died according to media reports. WHY WAIT TILL IT IS TOO LATE? WHO refused the transfer request WHY was appropriate iv treatment not instituted earlier Melissa Lysaght referred me back to the inquiry which will be involve a qualified infectious diseases expert. However did Hamid die for a reason that is much more simple and would only cost a couple of hundred thousand to fix for everyone there - 0.1% of Transfields 1.2B operating budget. (World Bank estimate doubled) WHY IS THERE NO SEWAGE TREATMENT FOR DETAINEES ON LOW LYING MANUS 1)In Delta compound raw sewage regularly washes up on high tide and with heavy rain. The staff hose out the toilets that are regularly blocked allowing raw sewage where people walk. The detainees have to walk through the raw sewage to get to food or the toilet. 2) Detainees are only issued with thongs. There are no gumboots or ways of avoiding raw sewage contacting bare skin 3) Coral cuts tend to get infected in very hot and damp conditions such as prevail on Manus 4) Providing septic tanks for 1200 people would cost 130K (World Bank figures) The sewage is currently untreated 5) Manus recently had a tent kitchen installed for 3.5M 6) It costs around $900 per day per detainee on Manus 7) Guards have tried to buy shoes for detainees and have been counselled 8) The cost of a pair of shoes and a pair of gumboots for raw sewage days is 2% of just one days cost of a detainees daily cost at retail prices, perhaps .5% if bought in bulk, or .007% of a 3 months cost assuming they may be need replacing every 3 months WHY NO SHOES OR GUMBOOTS TO PROTECT DETAINEES FROM LETHAL RAW SEWAGE? WOULD COST .007% OF 3 MONTH BUDGET
