WHY I NEVER FELL IN POLITICAL LOVE WITH SHITANDA I begin by paraphrasing the opening remarks of the great speech of Master Brutus in William Shakespeare’s world famous play of Julius Caesar that friends, Kakamegans, Countymen and women, and lovers hear me for my cause and be attentive so that you may hear, if there may be any one reading and listening to me, any dear friend of Peter Soita Shitanda, to him l say that Edwin Shivakale love of Shitanda was no less than his or her. If then that friend demand why Shivakale rose against Shitanda this is my answer: Not that l loved Shitanda but that l loved Kakamega more. Peter Soita Shitanda did not have the relevant educational and management qualification to rise onto the seat of Governor of Kakamega County. His alleged degree attained from Univesidad Empresserial de Costa Rica was and or is not recognized by the Commission for higher education in Kenya. Besides the hullabaloo about his good utilization of CDF kitty was misplaced since the national taxpayers association had rated Malava constituency below others in as far as excellent use of CDF funds is concerned. Schools in the constituency such as Shilongo primary in Matsakha Sub location had been affected by false promises all along that CDF will cater for buying of land to expand its compound to no avail. The rooftops of some of the school classes were blown away and destroyed by storm but Shitanda and CDF committee pretended as is nothing had happened It took some parliamentary aspirant in the name of one Musavini Nambwa to aid in the construction of classes and offices of schools such as Lukala Secondary and yet Shitanda and CDF kitty in Malava watched without help. Furthermore road network in Malava was in shambolic state. While walking on some of the roads you would think that you are passing through a ploughed land. Most roads that lead towards rivers have no bridges up to now. A case in point is Chebwai-Manyonje-Cheptuli road has never seen a bridge since time immemorial. Surprisingly this is the point that Joseph Thomson passed on 29th november 1883 while on his way from the village of Shiuma se Amondo near Lukova Primary at Sulungai where the clan leader of Abalasi(Kabras) clans one Musee se Lavani resided as he headed to KwaShiundu then Elureko and now Mumias the capital of the then mighty Wanga Kingdom. If Shitanda was cognizant of these events and places he would not have ignored them given their far reaching ramification on the economy of Kabras and Kakamega as far as tourism is concerned. For a period of 120 years since the passage of Thomsons caravan on Kabrasland no leader including Shitanda has ever bothered to preserve the Fort of Shiuma se Amondo at Sulungai as a historical site for purposes of tourism attraction. On education Shitanda always performed bellow the belt. His tenure had no respect for University education. To make matters worse even performance in primary education in Malava fell. Schools like Mukavakava led by Shitandas close allies such as Imbusi Murambi were being ranked last in the in the constituency and by extension the County. Shitanda was close to illiterate, semi illiterate and lifeist men and women who loathed intellectualism and elitism. Throughout his tenure he had never met the elite in Malava to dialogue on the future of the constituency politically, economically and socially. Conclusively Shitanda spent most of his energy in supporting sugar industries such Butali and West Kenya which has only benefited the capitalist Indian merchants at the expense of the Kabras peasants.
