WICEN NORTHERN RIVERS UPDATE As at July 1, 2013: WICEN NR has acquired new fiberglass extension ladders for safe work on towers, buildings etc where high voltages may be encountered. Also, we have a new Honda inverter generator for field operations. In other news, three of our members have acquired simplex repeaters made in the US by Argent Data Systems, Model ADS-SR1. These can be connected to most transceivers via a suitable cable, and will record and re-send a transmission on the one frequency. These may prove to be very useful for WICEN VHF/UHF comms in difficult terrain. The repeater can be placed at a high point and can be controlled via DTMF commands. It can operate in full-on mode or in say-again mode, where it will only repeat if requested to do so. It can also be used to transmit announcements, voice ID or CW Id at set intervals, and can operate as a voice mailbox. See details at argentdata.
