WILL YOU STAND WITH ME? Amid stiff opposition by some utility companies, I plan to push forward my proposal to waive utility deposits for victims of domestic violence at Tuesdays meeting of the Public Service Commission. As your Commissioner and the voice of the people living in the northern thirty-three counties of the state, I refuse to back off of this common sense proposal. Many victims of domestic violence simply cant leave dangerous situations because of financial hardships. My proposal gives them a sixty day waiver for their utility deposits. To guard against abuse of the program, any person receiving the waiver must be certified by a domestic violence shelter. This is the least we can do.
