WINTER WEATHER UPDATE We just completed a conference call with the National Weather Service in Amarillo regarding the winter weather for tomorrow and Saturday. Friday during the day they just expect light snow/sleet/freezing rain or a mix of that. It will lead to some icy/slick roads but they are only expecting an inch or less of snow and 0.10 or less of ice. Friday after sunset and into Saturday afternoon they are expecting the main batch. At this time they expect all snow with widespread totals of 2-4 across the Panhandles. They are expecting a heavier snow band that will be oriented from the south-southwest to north-northeast to set up sometime during the event. This band could bring 4-6, with locally higher amounts in the band. Their confidence is high on the precipitation types and timing but just have a moderate confidence on amounts right now. They also have a low confidence in the locations that will see the band. Right now a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 9 am Friday until 6 pm Saturday. They said it could be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning for parts of the area if they determine where this band will set up. They are not expecting blizzard like conditions as the winds will be light until the end of the vent. Hazardous travel conditions are expected, especially from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon. We will be watching this closely and keep you up to date with the latest information as it becomes available.
