Each copy took several monks many months of careful and painstaking effort. Each could cost many thousands of dollars in todays money. Only churches and kings could afford them. Then in 1450, the printing press was invented and started mass-producing the Bible. Even then, the vast majority of people were illiterate and still could not read the Bible. Only in the late 18th century did the worlds literacy rate start to rise. But many centuries before the printing press and before people could read, Christian families were already familiar with and meditating on each stage of the life of their Savior. How? Through the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary! Christs Mama is the only person who followed Him from His conception (todays Gospel) to His ascension (1st Reading), therefore she is the supreme human authority to teach us about our Lord. While waiting between Jesus Ascension and the Descent of the Holy Spirit, she prayed with Christs disciples. Throughout the ages, she has led everyone in prayer to her Son, available always to help in asking Him for help. She has been doing this since the Wedding at Cana when she interceded for the newly-wed couple after they ran out of wine (John 2:1-11). Today is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. The word Rosary comes from the Latin Rosarium (Rosario in Spanish) and it means garland of Roses. In praying the Rosary, Mama Mary shows us the Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious totality of our Savior. Have you ran out of wine and sweetness in your marriage? Is your family falling apart? Come to Mama! The family that prays together stays together. Daily Rosary brings together and trains the whole family in humility and obedience, gradually becoming a sweet garland of roses linked by strong faith, hope and love for God and each other.
