WORKSHOP SUPERVISOR - ASTRA Location: Gardens, Cape Town ASTRA is an NGO offering sheltered employment for the intellectually challenged. Based in Gardens (Cape Town). The centre provides a comprehensive service to members of the Jewish community who have special needs (intellectual disability and/or mental illness). The centre provides employment to 65 men and women who are unable to work on the open labour market, and ensures people with special needs maintain their right to meaningful work as equal citizens in the labour force, to develop their self-esteem and self-confidence thereby allowing them to strive towards social and economic independence. Working in our various workshops, our members produce a large variety of commercial arts, crafts and jewellery for sale. We are looking to employ a workshop supervisor to manage one of our workshops, key roles and responsibilities of this unique and exciting position include: • Day-to-day running of the workshop • Coordination of contract work with clients • Organisation of stock orders and co-ordination of the production process • Supervision of our members • Facilitation of various arts and crafts activities for the members. Applicants should have a passion for the creative and a background in arts and crafts such as; beading, needle work, sowing, jewellery making, etc. Strong organisation and communication skills are essential, experience in teaching or design an advantage.
