WOW!! - This first month of Marlo Massage Therapy has definitely flown by! I hope this spring rain has been good to everyones veggie gardens :0) In recent weeks I have had many enquiries about CUPPING. Cupping is great to release really stubbourn muscle tension. Read on for further information about what you can expect from a cupping session. Happy Days, Moira CUPPING Cupping is an ancient health care technique dating back centuries both in Western and Eastern Medicine. It is the application of specific cups to the body which create a vacuum - either through the use of flame or pump suction. Cupping is excellent for drawing out tension, enhancing the local blood supply to an area, lengthening fascia and giving an immunological boost by drawing out toxins. WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A CUPPING TREATMENT A cupping treatment will involve massage to soften and warm the muscles, the application of cups, followed by further massage. The number of cups will depend on the client and condition and a first treatment will usually involve 3 – 4 cups. The cups will feel firm on the body and warm – the cups will not be hot. The cups will either be left in a stationary position for between 5 – 20 mins and / or your practitioner will slide the cups along the skin. A cupping session may result in round marks being left on the skin, these marks will usually disappear in 3 – 7 days and are a reflection of the condition (According to Traditional Chinese Medicine): o Dark purple – deep seated blood stagnation o Pink – Qi deficiency o Combined colour – Combined symptoms After a cupping session you may feel release of muscle tension, sleepy and relaxed. CONTRINDICATIONS TO CUPPING 1. Pregnancy. 2. Not to be applied to the hand, face or front of the neck. 3. Not to be applied on a client with sensitive skin or over cuts and abrasions. 4.
