Wait a minute. Where are all of the black people in the new Noah - TopicsExpress

Wait a minute. Where are all of the black people in the new Noah movie? I expected an enormous mix of races; otherwise, how else did the rest of the world repopulate into what it is today? Why? The same reason Western media wouldnt dare cast a mulatto or mixed-Arab actor to play Yeshua even though 1st Century Palestine wasnt actually in a Swedish village. Its politics. According to the Bible, Shem and Ham would go on to populate Canaan, Africa, and the rest of the ancient Near East, while Japheth would populate Europe and the Far East. But in this movie, everyones from Medieval England. Why isnt anyone asking questions about that? The only Caucasian people in the Bible were the Roman authorities, as the soldiers themselves were Syrian (Shem) mercenaries. Why was the only major Biblical character in last years Bible Miniseries cast as the one man basically portrayed as a mindless brute that never cut his hair or kept his pants up, especially when Israel was less than a century removed from being a nation of people descended from 67 descendants of the brown-skinned Shem (no, not Triniyards Captain) that moved into Egypt and mingled with the dark-skinned Africans (as described by the Greeks of that time) for four centuries? Politics. It shouldnt matter what he looks like, but let a Haitian-American movie director produce a movie in which the Son of God has the appearance of a sub-Saharan African man and watch everyone freak the heck out. Do any of you remember that about a decade ago? We have evidence that the historical Jesuss skin was most likely the same color as mine, but we keep casting European pretty-boy hippies in movies. Why, so people are comfortable with an image? 1. Thats idolatry. 2. This image people have been envisioning and praying to for a century now in theatres is actually based on Michelangelos cousin, an undoubtedly Italian (read: European) man. How would you feel if I made a movie in which George Washington or Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. looked...different? Did Yeshua look like Seal? No way. Did he look like Osama bin Laden? Unlikely, as the Arabs that live there today didnt inhabit that region the way they do now until about the 4th Century after Jesus birth (when Islam arrived). Did he most likely look like an ancient Egyptian man, deep brown in complexion with a hint of African features? Ill live with that. Youre on notice, Hollywood. Fix it, or fund someone that will. People of color, I spoke about this a week ago. If you dont pool your resources, someone else will continue to tell you about your own history, and you eventually wont have one. The money is there. The finances and economy are there. It just needs to be properly invested. Wake up. Lastly, Im only ranting because I finally finished my Legal Writing Semester Project and I need to dump some extra knowledge before I pass out and wake up tomorrow to start studying for Wednesdays Civil Procedure midterm. Its going to be a long month, and I can feel it. Good night and good morning.
