Wall To Wall Television are looking for contributors for a show set to air on BBC One. They are looking for those from a multicultural background and it came via one of my Barbados networks. An outline of the requirement is below. Marilyn Devonish I’m currently working for a production company called Wall to Wall on a new series for BBC One called ‘The Gift’. The series is all about people that may want to find an individual from their past who has left a lasting impact on them. The programme helps to trace those people and gives them the opportunity to say either sorry or thank you where they haven’t been able to before. For the series, we’re looking for a range of different experiences and we’re keen that the series might tell of some human experiences through the social context of historical and current events. The series could be relevant to those within multicultural and migrant communities both currently and historically. We’re keen to speak with individuals who would like to find someone who helped them or their family before or since they migrated to the UK - someone who didn’t have to but showed them enormous kindness that they’ve never forgotten. This could be someone who housed them, took them in when things were difficult, may have saved their lives during persecution, or even helped them during a conflict or riot. One example of a poignant story we have come across was that of a Vietnamese refugee who, along with dozens of his compatriots, fled from Vietnam in the late 1970s in a small boat. Over thirty years later, he would like to find and thank the captain of a passing ship who saw the terrible conditions of those on the boat, took them on board his own ship and brought him and his family safely to the UK.
