Walmart stores are the number one place in the US for cashing food stamps and the company has the most number of employees of any US company using SNAP.The average hourly wage of a cashier at a Walmart is $8.44, with an annual income of $6,000-$11,000. With thousands of stores in every state throughout the US and nearly 20 countries worldwide, the company had over $405 billion in net sales in 2010, 64% of which is from US sector.Their total operating costs during this time were approximately $24 billion.Walmart captures $250 billion of the $1 trillion that the US spends on food.Further, each Walmart costs the US $1.8 billion ($420K/store) for public service benefits.Walmart drives down retail wages by $3 billion per year. The cost of welfare benefits to Walmart workers is an estimated $3 billion per year ($2,000 per employee per year at the federal level and another $1,000 at the state and local levels.)
