‘Want more trains on Thane-Panvel route’ THANE: With just 21 services throughout the day on the Thane-Panvel route, commuters using this stretch lament that the section has been long neglected by the Central Railway ever since it was introduced in 2010. Regulars complain that there arent enough trains connecting this route and have asked for more services during peak hours. The Thane-Panvel route forms one of the most promising sections on the Trans-Harbour route of the Central Railway (CR) with nearly a lakh commuters using the stretch daily. Officials said the route has been seeing a steady growth over the years thanks to the growing employment avenues in both cities. Despite this, there are just 21 services throughout the day here. Commuters and activists have been long demanding more trains on this belt as the alternative of MSRTC buses or autos isnt economical and is time consuming. The authorities should have thought of fleet expansion when they started the service. They should plan their services and not just start it and leave it mid-way. I feel the new rakes that will come should be deployed on this route, said railway activist Madhu Kotian.
