#Warbird Profile: Desert Mule VBairshow The Military Aviation Museums Polikarpov Po-2 Mule soars above the dunes of the United Arab Emirates. More than 40,000 examples of this aircraft were produced between 1928 and 1953. The Po-2 was a general-purpose biplane employed in civilian and military roles, including those of trainer, crop-duster, bomber, and reconnaissance platform. During WWII the Mule served as the unlikely weapon of the Soviet Unions 588th Night Bomber Regiment -- comprised entirely of women pilots and ground crew -- otherwise known as the Night Witches.
