Wardlaw Trophy Waikato has a stranglehold on the Wardlaw Trophy - TopicsExpress

Wardlaw Trophy Waikato has a stranglehold on the Wardlaw Trophy after two sessions of three at the Napier Hall. It would take a monumental choke for Waikato to lose from here which leaves Bay of Plenty, Hawke’s Bay and Wanganui fighting it out to see which district can secure second place. With the fours worth 4 points, pairs three points and singles two points, Waikato’s dominance lies in their player’s ability to win their singles games. Waikato has picked up 49 points out of a possible 64 points in the first two rounds of singles while Hawkes Bay has scored 35 points, Bay of Plenty 29 and Hawkes Bay 25. The Waikato squad have all scored consistently with Darryn Bell and Rochelle Hastie five wins, Trevor Coleman, David Archer and Lesley Monk 4 wins and a draw, Maureen Pruden, Simon Poppleton and Ciaran Blackbourn 3 wins and 2 draws. Bay of Plenty’s Robin Porter who was recently selected for the North Island Academy team is unbeaten with five wins and a draw followed by NZ representative Gina Owen with 5 wins and Nathan and Sam Bryant with four wins and a draw each. Hawkes Bay’s Glenis Cohen has recorded 5 wins, Mark Appleby and Chris Chilton have 3 wins and 2 draw and Bruce Dalton 4 wins. Wanganui’s best performances are by Les Heywood, Craig Bourne and Ann Kendrick with four wins each. So even though Waikato is way out in front there is still a lot to play for with the Paterson Trophy just around the corner and with the competition being held at Napier this year.
