Warning - Rare Political Rant. I have been reading plenty of posts and seeing the newscasts about Brown, Garner and et.al. and it had me considering the entire situation. The one word that really sticks out in all of these ‘protests’ is INJUSTICE. According to dictionary injustice is defined as: a noun where 1. the quality or fact of being unjust; inequity or 2. violation of the rights of others; unjust or unfair action or treatment, and 3. an unjust or unfair act; wrong. My question to those who are screaming INJUSTICE is – when did the injustice begin? At the time of the arrest/confrontation? I don’t think so. I have to believe that the injustice began when the perpetrator, or the “alleged suspect” or maybe “the person of interest” violated the written law of our land, whatever that law may have been. The police officer was trying to follow the oath he swore to uphold and bring the perp/alleged/interest in to an investigative phase of police work. In the two cases cited above, each RESISTED the lawful action of the police officer. How many times have you heard someone chastise a police officer when he/she was giving you a traffic ticket? Something like, oh, “Why are you stopping me, why don’t you go do some real police work.” Guess what, in these two instances THEY WERE! The other person (Brown and Garner) thought they were better than the police officer who was doing their job. You know, those same people, whose tax dollars pay the salary. For those who feel the injustices are increasing, I have done a bit of research and found the following. I found stats from – The Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice, the CDC and the FBI Census Bureau. Police killings of blacks are down 70% in the last 50 years – yes SEVENTY PERCENT! More recent history, in 2012, 123 blacks were killed by police with a gun. In the same period 326 WHITES were killed by police with a gun. THREE times as many whites killed. In 2013, blacks committed 5,375 murders however in the same time period whites committed 4,396 murders. Oh, by the way, in the same time period, whites were 63% of the population and blacks are 13%. I would like to see all of these protests and protesters focus on the real problem. RESPECT. IMHO, the real problem is the lack of respect being taught to our youth. People do not respect themselves or their own property. Until RESPECT is remembered and practiced on an every moment basis, our direction is not the way of a better community. Until people begin to respect themselves, how in the world can any one expect to have respect shown for yours/mine/anothers person or property!
