Warning - this may get lengthy but I need to update you all on whats been happening. First of all, let me bring you all up to date on my folks. I made a really quick trip to KC Thurs and met with the staff at the nursing home where dad is yesterday. The meeting was with dad, mom, me, our wonderful friend Susie, the head nurse, social worker, and dads physical therapist. We had a WONDERFUL report. Dad has improved significantly - exponentially - to the point that he is going to be able to go home. This will happen most likely the week of the 18th. This is a miracle! He still has short term memory issues but he is not lost anymore. He told me yesterday that he lost about a month and has no memory of the other two hospitals and what happened. He said, its weird. But he remembers now where they live - hes much more calm. He looked so good and sounded so good. This is miraculous. The physical therapist will be making a visit to their apartment this week to assess it for safety concerns so they will be doing some work to get it ready for him and mom both. The other thing I have to share many of you already know but I havent shared officially because I was waiting for one more meeting to take place - it did yesterday morning. So, now its official and I can write about it. MidAmerica has made me what I consider a very generous offer so we will be returning the KC area the end of december and Ill start there in January. About a year or so ago, I told Mary Jones, that we were thinking about heading back up to KC and to keep me in mind for something part-time just so I could continue to have an income. Mike and I want to start doing art festivals again. Well, Mary called me with this wonderful offer - Ill be on a 10-month faculty contract holding the position of Director of Institutional Research. So, weve been in conversation about this for a few weeks and yesterday I was able to meet with Dr. Spittal, the final piece. I am impressed with him. I believe that he is leading MidAmerica in the right direction and I am excited to be going back. Im going home - I spent 26 years working there and the way has opened up for me to go back. I must say that this isnt easy, though. I will miss this place and the people Ive grown so close to. I love MSU-West Plains. Its a wonderful place that does amazing things in this community. And, the most amazing and wonderful people work and teach there. This five-year sojourn in the Ozarks has done many things for me - Ive personally grown alot here. I got to go to China! My goodness. I cant name all of the friends Ive made here - there are too many. When I worked at MNU, I thought Id retire from there. When we moved to West Plains, I fully expected to retire here. Unpredictable and astonishing... Thursday as I was driving up, I listened to Dr. Swindoll. He spoke about the infinite love of God, Gods unpredictable guidance, and His astonishing blessings. This describes so well what God is doing for us in this - I cant explain it all in this post except to say that, in particular, His guidance is so very unpredictable and His blessing so very astonishing. This position, this move, this change is exactly right. I cant explain it - it is beyond my imagining - and yet it is so right. We will be back near our family - Ill be able to be close to mom and dad and Matt and Cathy and Sophia and Sara. AND, my many, many, dear friends at MNU an in KC. We will be able to have time for the art travelling to festivals. Blessed beyond all things. One last thing - KC friends - keep your eyes posted for a place for us to live. We want to rent - we need art space more than anything. Not necessarily a house. Maybe in the lenexa, merriam, prairie village, shawnee area - between Olathe and KCK. We plan to start looking seriously in October - moving during Christmas break.
