*Warning: #Godzilla Tangent ahead* And as a follow up to my picture post; No I will not let go of the limited screen time as a criticism! As someone who owns all the previous 29 movies, I did the math. If we exclude the original 1954 version and ignore the 98 film, the total time of the other movies having Godzilla/Monster fights/Monster interactions (in full and no close up of the creatures toes/in the background/etc.) are approximately 20 minutes for movies that are roughly 90-100 minutes, theyre spread out well so that while we have a lot of human moments they dont feel boring. The new movie is 123 minutes (JUST over 2 hrs.) long and total monster time is 10 minutes tops. After a half hour we catch quick glimpse of the monsters or in the background or up close with shaky cam its hard to see, at the halfway point we get a minute showing the monsters in full form...until it cuts away to showing the fight in the background of a tv set. Then the last 20 minutes of the movie is 8 minutes of monster fighting. If its going to be a 2 hour long film, the amount of monster screen time needs to be stretched out a bit and spread out enough to be satisfying. Its like someone ordering a drink, an appetizer and a meal, and after 20 minutes waiting you get your drink, an hour in you get a piece of the appetizer, afterwards you get the remaining parts of the appetizer and a drink refill (maybe) and then FINALLY get your full meal...with only 10 minutes until the restaurant closes.
