Warning. Major gripe to follow. Am I the only parent that feels that our schools may have taken the parent involvement thing to the extreme and just maybe a little to far by expecting parents to keep up with every teachers website, calendar, class assignments, etc.? Call me crazy, but doesnt that create and/or fuel the whole helicopter parenting that our schools and society complain about? Dont get me wrong, Im the proud daughter of a former career teacher and understand the importance and need for parent involvement and I am actively and willfully involved. However, I also feel that kids need to figure it out for themselves like we did. Sure, they will probably make mistakes and suffer consequences for not doing an assignment or turning it in late but those are important life lessons. They need to learn how to be responsible for their own work and deadlines so they can handle the real world of college, life and work when that time comes. One important part of being a good and successful parent is preparing our kids for life and being on their own. Ok. I think Im done. I feel better now. Thx for letting me vent.
