Was I wrong?: The band was having a great performance last night. Lots of people dancing, clapping for soloists, etc. great night. Late in the evening, one of the drunk dancers comes up and slurs, Play Old Time Rock and Roll!Seriously? Were playing originals, blues, and eclectic, and the particular bar were in (Engles Pub in Everett) loves us for it; and you want me to play some classic rock that any Dad Rock band can (and very frequently will) play. So I say on mic Well, you dont get much more old-time rock and roll than this... and break into some Howlin Wolf, which was the next blues cover in the set-list anyway. Everybody else continues having fun, drunk is shouting Boring! for about thirty seconds, then starts to bring her distinctly toxic breath back my way. Before she can start, I cut her off: If you dont like what we do, the doors arent locked, Darlin! Its not that Im above playing some Bob Seger (though I did so much of it when I first started playing out, its not what I choose, played itself out for me, etc. And its clearly not the genre that this particular band was playing all freakin night) but I feel that I have no time for people who simultaneously dance all night and tell me that I suck. Rough Houses has such poisonous food… and at such tiny portions. - J. Wellington Wimpy
