When the news broke of the death of Festus Iyayi in the circumstance of a road accident, one could be forgiven to surmise the unfortunate death could have been due to anything from hemorrhage (?due blunt abdominal injury) to just anything else, just anything! Today, the pictures of the body out on the internet tell a different story. A gunshot is the preeminent differential. What volume of blood of the innocent must be shed before this relentless siege by the ruling class against the citizens is broken? Now, if those pictures released by Sahara Reporters today are arent due to a gunshot, Nigerians at the very least ought to demand to know what injury presented itself in the cloak of both an entry and an exit wound. An inquest is the least we can demand. This incident and the deliberate attempts of the Nigerian state and its agents to obfuscate the facts, adumbrates in such a remarkable relief, the danger that the nation has become to itself and its citizens. A danger, manifest not just in that a soul perishes in such bizarre circumstance, but that compatriots shrug it off, lament at what an unfortunate event it was, and the procession of the walking dead resumes, awaiting the next victim from its number. This dirge is not for the departed. Let not him that put on his harness, boast as he that puts it off.
