Was bored the other day, & wrote this, definitely far from my best . But written from memories................................ Yeah, you guessed it, Rhyme time again. Old disco days Back in the 70’s & 80’s as well I had such fun, as you can tell It all started when my eldest sister had a party As a present I offered to do the music so hearty I ordered my first unit, from kays club book A Fal twin disco deck, my god what a look It came with some lights, the tall flashing kind Now they’re so rare they are so hard to find With the big booming speakers I now had the DJ touch But alas my music collection was not up to much So the weeks leading up to the party from hell I saved every penny I think I done well I bought loads of records, of all sorts of years The amount of money spend, brought me to tears The full top 40 from the last sixteen weeks Now my collection looked quite sweet All in all the party went with a bang Nothing was bad, as we had all the gang Mainly family & friends & a neighbour from hell But may I say my music went down well So now I start getting some bookings from here This could be the start of something great I cheer It’s all little parties. But nowt wrong with that It’s time to start working in my new DJ hat Bookings came rolling in thick & fast My only worry, was how long it will last? Kiddies parties here, birthday do’s there As long as it’s a booking I didn’t care Then came the big one, the start of it all The Rose Hill youth club, In the community Hall A weekly booking, sometimes two in one week Most of them loved it; some thought I was a geek I remember the discos, most of the people as well The Vicar from heaven, & the rogues from Hell We had, the Walls’ the Cox’s The Callahan’s too Even Kevin Samworth was at most of the do’s Playing two-tone music, was a favourite for me Watch them dance to the Specials, was I sight to see Those that remember, Will know when I say 2 songs by Bad Manners That really made my day They’d sing along at the top of their voice The words they sang were not my choice Rude ones mainly, but fun all the same Some when singing, even mentioned my name There were fights outside nearly every time But they got all sorted & everything was fine Boys trying their hardest to try and cop off But most of the time girls told them to P*** off Then I would play, Oops up side your head The floor would soon fill with the dance I did dread They called it the row boat dance, god knows why They’d form several rows & give it a try Moving forward, then back & then to the sides Watching the mistakes, brought tears to my eyes Great at the time, probably different now-a-days But at the end of the night, the kids were all full of praise How much they had liked the disco that night I’m was so glad I could do something right One night especially, really makes me smile Was when I was ending, giving up for a while I was giving away records of all sorts & guises I had competitions, the records were prizes Young Julian Mead liked a record that bad I made him sing with it, I think he was mad Not any normal record, A 12” version let me say Rappers delight 14 minutes long, he sang all the way There were other great discos, but to many to list But I was having fun watching them all getting P***ed There’s only one thing better than discos in my life Is the one thing that came out of them, Rose My wife.
