Was offline for a few hours because of power outage and an erratic 3G/LTE signal. When power and wifi finally came back, was greatly saddened by a barrage of timeline statuses about a Thomasian medical student dying of electrocution while crossing flooded Espana Boulevard. That the tragedy happened somewhere so close and to someone so much closer -- a former student and future colleague -- made it so personal and devastating. When I was a medical student, also belonging to Section A, we lost two classmates. The first, when we were in second year, we lost to status asthmaticus. The second, just a few weeks before our graduation, we lost to a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, ironically during our Neurology clerkship rotation. As a class, we were shattered. It was very hard to comprehend, much more make sense of. Both classmates and friends we lost without any warning, without any time to at least say our goodbyes. It was sudden as it was saddening. It made us cry and angry. They say that almost every year, UST Medicine loses a student to death. Ironic for an institution that supposed to teach and train future doctors to treat diseases and ailments and to delay death as long as humanly possible. But God has His plans. Today, we again lost a future doctor. But we did gain another angel. Rest in Peace, Siegfried. In a place where there are no more combo quizzes, no all-nighters, no practicals, no duties and no revalidas. You are home now.
