Was (only) Rajeep Slapped???? Well, NO the entire Anglicized intellectuals Elites (in media, academia and elsewhere) were slapped who just didnt bother to adopt the new change, nor did they bother to check the reality...they just blindly followed Westerners, especially the British legacy without its relevance and the real need. Prior to 90s, only elites had access to expensive and exclusive Ivy Leagues in India and abroad. However, post liberation era coupled with information technology revolution made this dream a reality for millions of middle-class folks with an equal opportunity for all. In this process, they didnt compromise their values and prospered into the new platform thus created another class in itself. In my own experience while working in Manhattan, the elites and common background people worked together with similar opportunities/possibilities to prosper. Another case - many elite academics/authors were surprised by the rise of simple Hingish (Hindi-English) author (Chetan Bhagat and et al) who become an overnight celebrity after he found the pulse of rising India. He didnt care the norms, he just wrote for mass youth, who studied in English but spoke Hindi-English on day-to-day basis. What was unique - most of them, from urban and semi-urban area, were also rooted to their traditional values/culture. However, Indian media instead of taking the advantage of large English speaking youth audience, it made itself an outdated and an irrelevant by promoting Westernization blindly and ridiculing the Indian culture. On contrary the social media started prospering with better adaptability in terms of news content, references and ability to reach out more people with it’s additional power of translating the content into a local language. Since the Nehru ideology itself has become irrelevant, elitists needs to find their ways to survive in this new era or will perish. NaMophobia (term coined by my friend, Madhup Mehta), is just an irrational phobia generated by media among elitist who are unable to digest the rise of the common man, thus are living in fictions world or class created in their own mind. At the end, just bashing common man who is taking pride in his leader (who was (once) one among them) or ridiculing their faith/belief will NOT work. The more you oppose, the sooner you will make yourself an irrelevant. With International recognition and acceptance of Indian values/culture (for reasons well-known to us), these Anglicized elites will have Trishankoo status - no place to go. -- Sandhya Jane #RajdeepSlapped
