Watching TMP tonight (looks crisp and clear on BluRay, I prefer the Directors Cut DVD, but this one looks better). I remember this film scared me as a kid, some big cloud of destruction coming to destroy Earth, always hoped the Enterprise was up there to save us. Most people dismiss it as long and boring, while I agree, we have to consider the time this movie was filmed. Trek had been off air for ten years, Paramount wanted to capitalize on the success of SWars and 2001 (you think TMP is long/boring, watch it), so, they went a bit overboard of the effects. As far as Im concerned, its a product of its time (a period film (?), and should be respected/viewed/judged in that fashion. Additionally, in contradiction to most of my JJTrek comments on this board, I believe it is a film that only us Prime people can appreciate fully. With respect to NuTrek, there will never be a Trek like TMP.
