Watching the Ken Burns film on the Roosevelts. Stuck by how - TopicsExpress

Watching the Ken Burns film on the Roosevelts. Stuck by how commentators of such different political persuasions are brought near to tears talking about FDR. I remember being in an extemporaneous speaking contest in high school.and being a little thrown when the judge started weeping during my speech. FDR really touched people, continues to touch people who were not even alive during his lifetime. Have always been fascinated by him. My grandmother only had two secular wall hangings in her little house trailer--JFK (I knew who he was) because he was a Catholic and another good looking man who was a complete mystery to me. It was FDR. Many, many poor people had a portrait photo of FDR and my dads people were dirt poor. Hope our country never has hard times on a large scale like that again. But I have a deeper, probably naive hope that one of these years, we may actually have a real leader again.
