Water Springing From Fingers Anas (رضي الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ عنه) narrated: “I saw the Messenger of Allah (سيدنا محمد ﺻﻠﯽ الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ ﻋﻠﯿﮧ ﻭﺍٓﻟﮧ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ) around the time for Asr prayers. The Companions searched for water for Wudhu, but they could not find any. Eventually I brought him a container with a little water in it. The Messenger of Allah (سيدنا محمد ﺻﻠﯽ الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ ﻋﻠﯿﮧ ﻭﺍٓﻟﮧ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ) placed his hand in this container and told people to perform Wudhu from that water. Meanwhile, water was springing from his fingers. Everyone in there, even those who arrived later, performed their Wudhu with that water.” Having listened to these words, one of the men in the congregation asked Anas (رضي الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ عنه): “O Anas! How many people performed Wudhu on that day?” “Almost three hundred people they were,” Anas (رضي الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ عنه) replied. [Sahih Bukhari] A miracle is an alteration of the law of nature that is not possible for any human being to perform. Prophets are granted miracles to allow people to believe that they have indeed been commissioned by God: Since only the Creator of natural law has the ability to suspend or alter it. The springing of water from the fingers of the Messenger of Allah ((سيدنا محمد ﺻﻠﯽ الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ ﻋﻠﯿﮧ ﻭﺍٓﻟﮧ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ) is one of the smaller miracles that Muhammad (سيدنا محمد ﺻﻠﯽ الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ ﻋﻠﯿﮧ ﻭﺍٓﻟﮧ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ) was blessed with. The greatest miracle that Allah (الله سبحان و تعالىٰ ) supported him with was the Quran. This is a lasting proof of his prophethood, while the other miracles, such as the splitting of the moon and the crying of the date tree, were witnessed by the people of that time but cannot be witnessed by us today. By revealing the Quran and preserving it word for word, Allah (الله سبحان و تعالىٰ ) has facilitated people of every age to believe in Him and the prophethood of Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), by witnessing its miracle for themselves.
