Water play is a fun way for young children to spend hot - TopicsExpress

Water play is a fun way for young children to spend hot afternoons. But fun can turn to tragedy almost instantly. Two-year-old Joshua Collingsworth was the victim of a tragic drowning accident. Since his death in 2008, his family has set out to prevent similar tragedies by educating young children and their families about water safety. Part of the Joshua Collingsworth Memorial foundation, Float for Life teaches children as young as six months old how to hold their breath and float on their backs in the water. Joshuas parents have also written a childrens book titled, Joshua the Baby Otter in memory of their son. The book introduces the basic rules of water safety in a fun and relatable way. Teachers can use this book to prepare children for water days at school, and can share the book with families to help prevent drowning accidents at home.
