Way back before phrase samplers existed, musicians actually had to LEARN your shit in order to copy it. The Sugarhill Records house band did just that on much of the labels catalog, and usually nailed it as good as the original artist, or better. Case in point, the classic SPOONIE GEE joint, Spoonie is back copies JBs Funky President for its verses....(not sure what the bridge is from..could be original) This rendition of the JB track is every bit as funky...and Spoonies smoooove delivery makes him still sound kool, 33 years later.
