Wayne Grudem gives the order of salvation like this: 1. Election- God’s choice of people to be saved 2. The Gospel Call- proclaiming the gospel 3. Regeneration- being born again 4. Conversion- faith and repentance 5. Justification- right legal standing before God 6. Adoption- membership in God’s family 7. Sanctification- right conduct in life 8. Perseverance- remaining a Christian 9. Death- going to be with the Lord 10. Glorification- receiving resurrection body This is what is called the ordo salutis, or order of salvation, speaking of a process, not time. I would encourage all ex-UPCers to study these doctrines. The doctrine of Justification by faith alone, that great pillar of Luthers Reformation. When a sinner is justified, they are declared not guilty on account of Christs vicarious atonement for all their sins they ever committed, or ever will commit. And not only that, but all of the righteousness that is Christs is then imputed or credited to their account. Sanctification: this actually has three separate parts. Positional Sanctification: This happens at justification, a sinner is declared righteous on account of Christs death. Progressive Sanctification: the old nature must die daily as we struggle to fulfill the commands of Scripture, and let our faith meet works. Prospective Sanctification: We will be completely without spot or blemish when this corruption puts on incorruption.
