~ We Shall See ~ Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: ... ~Hebrews 12:14 KJV. Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord. ~ Hebrews 12:14 NASB. How much holiness is required to “see the Lord”? Or … how much sanctification is necessary to “see the Lord”? There could be more than one way to look at this scripture and how it applies to us. Some might say that when we are in Christ with our sins forgiven, with forgiveness continuing as we remain in Him, then we have achieved holiness and are holy. There is truth in that, for He has made us holy – if He had not, the Spirit would not dwell within us. This scripture seems to be referring also to our walk, as well as to our initial salvation, telling us to seek to walk in holiness, conforming to the holiness demanded by God. If holiness is perfection, we dont have it in ourselves, but have it through the grace of God, for we are continually forgiven in Christ. But if we claim to be in Christ, it is not fitting to walk in the manner of un-holiness; for to do so may jeopardize our salvation; that is, we may not “see the Lord”. But we are not of those who turn back to stumble about in darkness, for we walk with uprightness of heart, refusing to bow to sin, and are confident in our salvation.
