We are VERY proud to announce that as of February 1, 2014, Maggie Johnson, MT-BC became the Training Director for our Earthtones Music Therapy Internship program. Maggie is absolutely loved and appreciated by all for her expertise, professionalism, kindness and supportive spirit! Maggie grew up on a dairy farm in North Bend, Oregon. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition and Mathematics from Grinnell College and a Bachelor of Music Therapy from Marylhurst University. Maggie first came to Earthtones as an intern in January 2011 and began providing music therapy services for us as a professional in September 2011. Maggie is a proficient musician on piano, guitar, voice, a variety of flutes, electric bass, and percussion. She also enjoys composing original pieces of music. Maggie’s clinical experience includes medical facilities, group homes, academic institutions, day camps, memory care units, and day programs. She is a fantastic, energetic music therapist who combines her natural musicality with a strong affinity for people and her skills as a wonderful listener. Clients who have worked with Maggie say, “Maggie made us feel awake and alive today!” “I feel so much better after I hear Maggie’s guitar playing. She knows how to get just the right tones.” “Not only does Maggie engage the residents, she brings back memories of their pasts to reminisce about.” An administrator who has worked with Maggie told us, “Maggie is a delight to work with. She took the liberty to contact us prior to her class to confirm details. We love working with her!” …and Maggie herself says, “To engage in music therapy is to empower oneself through music, from the way our heartbeat interacts with the beat, to the way our memories are triggered through familiar songs, to the social aspect of engaging with others in a safe and creative environment. I work to help clients reach their goals for health and wellness through motivating and engaging musical experiences.”
