We are basically surrounded by some fires. In New Mexico, we have what is called "dry thunderstorms." The problem is, they still produce lightening, which produces some huge fires, the current ones included. The other problem is NM tries to suppress natural occurring fires and consequently you get a deep bed of dried leaves and pine needles and it is this problem that creates the huge conflagrations. They need to let the periodic natural fires occur in order to burn off the dried leaves and needles and it would keep the fires much smaller. These are the fires currently happening and they are big: Jaroso Fire - inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3416/ Silver Fire - inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3414/ Thompson Ridge Fire: inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3404/ Tres Lagunas Fire: inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3401/ Sawmill Canyon Fire: inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3411/
