We are coolly ensconced in the Saddle West Casino Hotel in Pahrump - TopicsExpress

We are coolly ensconced in the Saddle West Casino Hotel in Pahrump Nevada. We arrived at 2:45 meaning we rode Death Valley in the hottest part of the day. Not cool. We left Ridgecrest Ca at 5:45 and headed out with our jackets on toward the park on highway 178. Fifty miles later we cam to a pile of gravel across the road and a sign stating the road was closed due to flash flooding. Back to Ridgecrest and and start over on hwy 395, a longer route. Total lost time of about three hours thus missing the cooler weather of the morning. Stopped at Stovepipe Wells for water and unsuccessful t-shirt shopping. Then on to Furnace Creek visitor centre for a long break in the air conditioning. Bought neck buddies which we soaked in the cool water and wrapped around our necks. Made the rest of the ride survivable. The temperature at the visitor centre was 118, the ranger thought 6 to 10 degrees higher on the road. The worst part fpr heat was actually approaching Death Valley Junction. Stopped at the cafe which was closed but had a sign in the window saying go to the hotel for cold drinks. They had none. Fortunately the beer in the cooler was not icy but quite cool. Photo attached.
