We are honored to announce that Ambassador Asif J. Chaudhry, U.S. Senior Foreign Service Officer, and former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, will be our keynote speaker and will be speaking on US foreign policy in the 21st century. Ambassador Asif Chaudhry Biography: Ambassador Asif Chaudhry is a U.S. Senior Foreign Service Officer in the class of Career Minister. He has had held numerous senior positions in the Departments of State, Defense and Agriculture. Just last week, Ambassador Chaudhry completed a three-year assignment as the Foreign Policy Advisor to the Chief of United States Navy at the Pentagon. During this assignment, he was the principal architect of U.S. Navy’s global engagement to implement President Obama’s policy of rebalance to the Asia Pacific region. He was the U.S. Ambassador the Republic of Moldova from 2008-2011 where he led the implementation of policies that resulted in Moldova achieving a visa-free travel regime and an Association agreement with the European Union. Prior to that assignment, Ambassador Chaudhry was the Deputy Administrator of a Foreign Affairs Agency leading analysis and policy development for numerous bilateral and multilateral trade agreements between the United States and other major trading partners. As Minister-Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo Egypt, he oversaw trade relations between the U.S. and Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Earlier in his career, he served as the Counselor for Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow where he developed and implemented the largest commodity assistance program ever implemented by the United States. As Attache at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw Poland, Ambassador Chaudhry led the implementation of various reform programs to transform the country from a centrally controlled system to a free market economy. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he had a brief stint as a Professor of Economics at Montana State University. Ambassador Chaudhry was born in a small rural village in Pakistan. He holds a Ph.D. in Ag-Economics from Washington State University and a Master’s Degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He speaks Russian, Arabic, Polish, Urdu and Punjabi, and received a Presidential Meritorious Service Award for conduct of U.S. Foreign Policy. moldova.usembassy.gov/asif-chaudhry.html
