We are just back in Holland and are only at the beginning of our realization what a great lifetime experience we went through the last three weeks in China. Of course, the participation in the 2014 Nanjing YOG of our son Lars van Someren was very special to begin with. And his Youth Olympic bronze medal in Windsurfing was exceptional. But what made the entire trip truly unforgetable was the fact that we as a family were able to share everything together and with very special friends, too. We learned that the Aanholt family are equally enthousiastic, dedicated and crazy about sailing as we are about windsurfing. Furthermore, the van den Eerenbeemt family from Aruba was indispensible in the team for their fun company and their Subway supply chain management skills. And what to say about the Nores family from the USA? Nothing is too much for them either, and their sons and our kids deserve a medal for being so good together and being such dedicated supporters to their respective elder brothers. And lets not forget our friend Raul Saubidet. The emotions we shared together when both our sons were up on the podium, we will never forget! And when we all returned home, it was hearthwarming to see the van Someren family awaiting Lars and us. This Olympics was not about winning. It was about winning and sharing with family and friends. The friendship, warmth and love we felt is what gives Lars his bronze medal a truly golden edge! We want to thank everyone who contributed to Lars his sportive success. We want to thank our exceptional friends with whom we shared this amazing experience. And last but not least we want to express our great gratitude to the thousands of YOG volunteers who did a truly outstanding job. Thank you all, Xie Xie China!
