We are lucky and blessed to live in a water holler (water hollow) - TopicsExpress

We are lucky and blessed to live in a water holler (water hollow) which serves as a highway for all kinds of migrating fauna from birds to newts to black bears. The South Mountains are a geographical jumping off point or migration tollbooth and rest area for the migrating birds up and down the Blue Ridge and Appalachians. We see almost everything coming and going spring and fall as they use the water hollow as a 72 hr + staging and rest area. Even the Newts (Red Eft pictured) migrate every spring off the creek and onto land to live their terrestrial cycle before returning to water. This year, we believe, because of the long hard winter, the birds all came to our hollow and feeders at once....including the male bears that attack and destroy every bird feeder they can reach.
