We are now forming the Batangas Provincial Capitol Committee for the celebration of the 150TH Birth Anniversary of 2 great Batanguenos,Apolinario Mabini of Tanauan,Batangas and Galicano Apacible of Balayan,Batangas. Part of the project under the Provincial School Board is to launch a poetry and painting workshops and contests regarding Mabini and Apacible to be participated in by young students in many public schools in Batangas.We will also conduct lecture series and forums on selected public schools in Batangas regarding their lives and their contributions to Philippine Society and many other ideas. Apolinario Mabini is known to many as the first Prime Minister of the Philippines and the Brains of the Revolution and the creator of the Malolos Constitution,Asias first Constitution but many have forgotten about Galicano Apacible. Galicano Apacible of Balayan was the Chairman of the Filipino Commitee in Hongkong who raised funds for the Government of Aguinaldo to buy arms and other needs to fund the Revolution in our wars against Spain and the Americans without being tainted by corruption.He also became Governor of Batangas and representative to the First Phil.Assembly representing Batangas First District and the First Secretary of the Dept of Agriculture in 1919.He was born in Balayan,Batangas on June 25,1864 while Mabini is July 22,1864. It was Apacible who helped the poor but bright Mabini to finish law school even his graduation expenses for Apacible belonged to a wealthy clan in Balayan,Batangas.He was with Rizal and Del Pilar in Europe as one of the Reformist group and wrote many articles in the La Solidaridad of Marcelo H.Del Pilar.Galicano is a medical doctor along with Rizal. The Committee will be composed of Me of Calatagan,Batangas,as the consultant for the Provincial School Board for history,heritage,arts and culture,Mr.Sam Isaga of Lipa,Batangas,director of the Provincial School Board for school programs,Mr.Ben De Nepales of Batangas City,Provincial Secretary in charge of legislations regarding the projects,Lino Acasio of Lemery,Batangas,founder of the Grupo Sining Batangueno for Arts,Kiko Villanueva of Nasugbu,graphic artist for tarpaulines and shirts and April Hope Castro,Assistant Professor-History Division,Dept of Social Science,UP Los Baños who will be our consultant for the project as a professional historian.She is now in the middle of earning her doctorate degree in History. Then we will present the programs to Vice Governor Mark Leviste who chairs the Committee on history,heritage,arts and culture in Batangas and to Governor Vilma Santos-Recto. Meetings and brainstorming will kick off this December and by January we will start executing programs for June 25 in behalf of Galicano Apacible and July 22 in behalf of Apolinario Mabini.
